How to Sign on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge using emSigner on GST Portal

NSH-chrome-emsigner

The emSigner is used to sign the GST return with Digital Signature Certificate token (DSC) while filing it on the GST Portal. emSigner is must to sign using DSC for various returns on GST Portal like GSTR 3B, GSTR 1 , GSTR 4 ,GSTR 6 , GSTR 9 , GSTR 9C , etc.

emSigner is designed for Internet explorer and Microsoft Edge Legacy Mode. But after the recent news by the Microsoft that the support for both the software Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge Legacy Mode will be discontinued soon, there will be problems for various taxpayers that how will the file return.

Many users are also not able use the emSigner after updating the Microsoft Edge to Chromium Edition as emSigner is not made for Chromium Edition of Microsoft Edge. From start Google Chrome did not supported the emSigner. Many user use to do various Proxy setting to use emSigner on Google Chrome but this setting was not working for everyone and not at all useful for everyone.

Taxpayers who are using old version of Windows like Windows 7, Windows 8, etc will not have access to Microsoft Edge and hence they have to rely on Internet Explorer which is going to be discontinued soon.

I have come up with various steps which will help taxpayers to use emSigner in Google Chrome as well as Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition.

To use emSigner for signing of GST return in GST Portal via Google Chrome please follow the following steps –

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Copy chrome://flags/#allow-insecure-localhost.
  3. Paste the copied link in Google Chrome URL.
  4. Change the status to Enabled of Allow invalid certificates for resources loaded from localhost.
  5. Google Chrome will prompt to restart the browser. Restart the browser.
  6. Now you can use emSigner on Google Chrome.

To use emSigner for signing of GST return in GST Portal via Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition please follow the following steps –

  1. Open Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition.
  2. Copy edge://flags/#allow-insecure-localhost.
  3. Paste the copied link in Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition URL.
  4. Change the status to Enabled of Allow invalid certificates for resources loaded from localhost.
  5. Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition will prompt to restart the browser. Restart the browser.
  6. Now you can use emSigner on Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition.

This are the experimental features which are given by Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition. With the help of Experimental feature, we can now use emSigner to sign various GST return of GST Portal using Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition.

I have personally tested the steps mentioned above and monitored it and I have not yet encountered any problem using these steps. This will help a lot of taxpayers by using this experimental feature.

Many taxpayers are waiting for this and this will help them to sign various returns on GST Portal using emSigner using browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Chromium Edition.
